Archaeologists tell us that originally, Dunmore Castle was more Hall House design. At Dunmore “…the later additions almost completely mask the early Hall-house that dates from c. 1225. The orignal building was lamost certainly only two stories high with a first floor hall and clear evidence for an external wooden stair. It had a special stair in the north-east angle to give accesses to the ground floor and a garderobe in the north-west angle of the hall, tow further floor levels were added to it in the late medieval period, and it has a fireplace at each story above ground level”.1
